About the Project

This Open-Source project is great for IoT sensor capture that streams sensor data to a mobile App or Dapp. This project stores sensor data onto a central server or blockchain. It’s also a great way to break into IoT using sensors. All the code is made available for free along with setup instructions on GitHub.

Getting Started

For this project, you will need some hardware that costs just under $125. This includes an Arduino board, Arduino Sensor Kit Base, a Raspberry Pi, and four soil sensors with extended 4 pin jumper cables. We’ve created an application called Planter AI to help get you started!

For this project you will need to pick up some hardware to go along with your Open-Source code on Github. Everything you see below should cost no more than $175.00 – For your convenience we’ve added a button to each product. If you already have some of the hardware just get the remaining items. We created a starter project (Dapp) called Planter AI to help get you going.

Raspberry Pi 4 X1

Your tiny, dual-display, desktop computer will connect to your screen, Arduino devices, and be the brains behind the operation. You will just need one of these.

Arduino Uno R3 X1

The Arduino UNO R3 is the best board to get started with electronics and coding. UNO R3 is the most used and documented board of the whole Arduino family. This board will attach underneath the Arduino Sensor Kit Base.

Arduino Sensor Kit Base X1

The Arduino Sensor Kit is a joint electronics starter kit from Seeed and Arduino. It integrates 10 commonly used electronics modules on one PCB, so no breadboard, no soldering, and even no wiring are required. The Arduino content team has also prepared a step-by-step tutorial for this kit. All these features make it an ideal Arduino starter kit for Steam education and online teaching.

Capacitive Soil Moisture Sensor X4

Capacitive Soil Moisture Sensor (Corrosion Resistant) is a soil moisture sensor based on capacitance changes. Be sure to buy four of these. Each sensor comes with a 4 pin bucked cable. (500mm x9.6mm x4mm)

Concise 4 pin buckled high quality copper wires come with each Capacitive Soil Moisture Sensor. (500mm x9.6mm x4mm) – These are long enough for your project. You could always get longer cables if you need more reach, but these are long enough for your plants or test jars.
