About the Project

This Open-Source project is an excellent resource for developing and deploying IoT sensor capture applications. It streams real-time sensor data to a mobile App or dApp, as well as stores it onto a cloud server or blockchain. With its easy-to-understand setup instructions and free code available on GitHub, it’s an ideal platform for users just starting out with IoT-based projects.

Getting Started

For this project, you will need some hardware that costs just under $150. This includes an Arduino board, Arduino Sensor Kit Base, a Raspberry Pi, four soil sensors with 4 pin jumper cables X4, and our convenient Planter AI application to help get you started! With this setup, you can easily monitor and adjust the soil moisture, temperature, and other environmental conditions of your plants, giving them the best chance of thriving.


For this project, you’ll need to acquire some hardware to complement the open-source code you can find on Github. We’ve put together a starter project called Planter AI, to help you get started. All the items listed below should cost no more than $150; we’ve included a convenient button for each product to make purchasing a breeze. If you already have some of the hardware, simply purchase the remaining items. Happy coding!

Arduino Sensor Kit Base x1

The Arduino Sensor Kit is a joint electronics starter kit from Seeed and Arduino. It integrates 10 commonly used electronics modules on one PCB, so no breadboard, no soldering, and even no wiring are required. The Arduino content team has also prepared a step-by-step tutorial for this kit. All these features make it an ideal Arduino starter kit for Steam education and online teaching. The Arduino Sensor Kit is an all-in-one package that makes it easy for anyone to get started with electronics and Arduino programming.

Universal 4 Pin Buckled x4

Each Capacitive Soil Moisture Sensor comes with a 4 pin buckled high quality copper wire (500mm x9.6mm x4mm) which is long enough for most projects. Extra length can be obtained if needed.

Capacitive Soil Moisture Sensor x4

This Capacitive Soil Moisture Sensor (Corrosion Resistant) is a high-accuracy, reliable and corrosion-resistant sensor which comes with a 4 pin buckled cable (500mm x9.6mm x4mm). It is easy to use and install and has a long service life, so make sure to buy four of these for optimal results.
